Program Overview

Defeating Dis-Ease is regularly offered in the Gathering Room at Wholeness Family Clinic and is available as a live weekend seminar for groups, as well as on a number of media formats for individual or group study. The program is divided into five sections.  Section One is foundational in understanding the roots of dis-ease. Here we examine the mind-body connection and how the emotional state of our brain (represented by the balance in the diagram) affects our physiology (stickman) and behaviour (will box).

Dis-Ease-Cycle

Specifically, we see how unresourceful emotions such as fear, anger, guilt, loneliness, hopelessness and shame (balance to the left) depress our immune system, intensify pain, and cause dysfunction in our hormone systems.  Then, using a bio-psycho-social-spiritual model (the Four Pillars), Sections Two to Five cover the practical steps anyone can take to replace these debilitating emotions with health promoting ones (tipping the balance to the right). The topics covered are:

  • Cleaning Your Environment - lifestyle such as exercise, diet, etc.
  • Don’t Ignore the Spiritual - purpose, vision, values and meaning in life
  • Deal with Your Past - rich inner life by being free of past hurts
  • Improve Your Relationships - intimacy and interdependence

Educational material is liberally illustrated with PowerPoint slides, and enhanced with real life stories and  motivating material.

Evidence Based

Defeating Dis-Ease is evidence based, meaning that we stay away from treatments for which there are no solid scientific evidences that they work.  No products or unproven fads are promoted.  The program supports a healthy balance between ethical medical science and alternative medicine.
